The short version

“Tonight I want to go hard on hip-hop” — so you don’t get lost on a night like that, we’ve rounded up the Tokyo clubs strong on hip-hop and R&B. The trick is simple: narrow it down by two axes, area × music. This guide lines up the clubs a traveler should know first, with photos, and links straight through to each club page and a discount guest pass. Your first stop tonight is one tap away.

Tokyo's hip-hop scene

Tokyo hip-hop spreads out mainly around Shinjuku and Roppongi. Some clubs run the booth on hip-hop alone; others go all-mix with EDM and house, with hip-hop and R&B coming on at certain hours. Some bring in showgirl sets, some let you enjoy live-band karaoke — the color of the floor varies. That’s exactly why picking by “what kind of night do I want?” lands you on the club that fits.

THE PINK TOKYO runs the booth mainly on hip-hop, with J-RAP guests dropping in on weekends. There are showgirl sets too, so the whole floor puts on a show. CROSS ROPPONGI pairs a Roppongi hip-hop floor (spot the bulb ceiling) with live-band karaoke and a bar. TIDE TOKYO is an all-mix of EDM, house and R&B, with hip-hop firmly in the rotation. T2 SHINJUKU runs EDM/hip-hop on the main floor and R&B/K-Pop on the sub — the charm is moving between floors and picking by mood. WARP SHINJUKU opens with Top 40 and hip-hop remixes, then switches to serious DJ sets later on.

PINK, CROSS, TIDE and T2 have guest passes out right now, so you’ll get in for less than the standard cover. WARP is on its club page.

FAQ

Where's best for a hip-hop first-timer?

THE PINK TOKYO or T2 SHINJUKU in Shinjuku are easy entry points. The hip-hop ratio is high, the floor is wide, and the vibe is easy to read. To go international in Roppongi, CROSS ROPPONGI is a great pick too.

What time should I go?

The peak is 1–3am. That’s when hip-hop and Top 40 hit hardest. Earlier is quieter and easy to get into, and many clubs lean into serious DJ sets later on, so pick your time to match what you’re after.

What do I need to get in?

At the door you’ll need your passport, or another government photo ID (20+). For visitors from abroad, a passport is the safe bet. Skimming know before you go before you head out puts you at ease.
