First, the ground rule. In Japan, drinking and smoking are 20+, and that’s the same at every club. The age you can “enter,” though, is set per venue — most clubs are 20+, but some allow entry from 18.

The key point: even at clubs you can enter from 18, alcohol is 20+. At the age check they may split wristband colors, or point under-20s to soft drinks only.
